You’re not alone anymore. We’re in this together.
Welcome back to another episode of Mom On Purpose. So I wanted to give a little background on the name of this show. Okay. So what I love to do is help moms live their lives on purpose. And I’ve mentioned this in the trailer, in the description, I find that so many moms are living a reactive life, but living a reactive life, following the next emergency, the next thing that the kid needs.
Really, it just comes from us not knowing and understanding and living our purpose and living on purpose. But the other part of that is like really understanding and living with purpose. Okay. And I truly do believe, and I’ve mentioned this in the past, that I believe every woman has a divine purpose on this earth.
And when she wakes up to that divine purpose, Everything shifts in her life and in the life of everyone. She’s around the world changes. Her community is better. Her family life is elevated. Her home, the way her home functions, all of that shifts. When a woman wakes up to this divine purpose. So for me, it’s very important that as we talk about this, that you know, and understand my passion behind it.
Even from a young child, I was somebody that wanted to talk about people’s dreams. I wanted to sit and find out what did they want to do in their life. As I got older, I wanted to just sit and listen to the stories of people’s lives. I find so much beauty in that, and I hope that as we go through this today, that you’ll find beauty in your own story and that you’ll see that, that you have your own divine purpose.
And as I teach you these skills today in this podcast episode. I hope that you’ll be able to wake up and discover what it is that you are meant to do and who you are meant to become. So the last couple episodes we’ve talked about getting to know who you are and developing love for that individual.
Today I wanted to focus on helping you become who you are meant to be reaching that full potential, that divine purpose that you have. So we’re going to start with, this podcast episode is for you, just as always, with a couple things that I see in my clients.
These are always symptoms that are going to show up if you’re really unclear about what your purpose is or who you’re meant to be. So if you’ve ever found yourself ugly crying, when Moana is staring at the ocean that moment where she’s looking out and she feels like she’s out of place on the island and that something is calling to her on the water and she can’t place it. You know that feeling. If you’ve ever resonated with the Greatest Showman Song, A Million Dreams, to the point where you probably sang it in the car with your kids and started crying while you were singing it, okay, would you know deep down that you’re meant to do something great and that you are scared that you’re not living up to your full potential?
And when that feeling starts to rise up, There’s something that you do every single time. You tell yourself it’s not the right time or season, or I’ll do it once the kids get older, or I am already doing what I feel like I want to I’m home with my kids, or I’m working at this career that I’ve always wanted.
But deep down, something feels off and you the pain and the ringing is getting louder and more painful. And then, At some point you think, okay, then I need to start volunteering more in my community. I need to volunteer more in my church group. And suddenly you start saying yes to a lot of other obligations, and suddenly you’re completely overwhelmed with how overscheduled you are.
Okay. All of these are symptoms that you are being called to something more that you are being invited to discover and to live your full potential to become the woman that you’ve always been meant to be. So I share these examples, as like this podcast episode is for you because these were me not that long ago.
It was probably about, five to eight years ago. Where I started having this restless feeling inside of me, but it didn’t make sense. I already was living the life that I dreamed. I was a mom. I had a house, I had some fur babies. I had a pa, a job that I loved and I was very happy with where I was at.
But something inside of me was, it was painful and I couldn’t. Put it into words when I would try and describe it to my husband, to the point where just in like my spare time, I was looking at college programs to go back to school, but I was never acting on them or I was finding job descriptions that I wanted to send to people or jobs that I thought I could apply for, but I was never actually applying for them.
I was just doing that because something was like inside of me that was painful and it really just didn’t make sense honestly, because logically it wasn’t the right time. I had very difficult pregnancies. My children were still very young and I was over, I was coming out of some of those really hard pregnancies, including postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety.
I finally got those figured out. And then I had a baby. I had my third baby and I was in a wheelchair with him. Due to some complications with my hips. My husband works 80 plus hours a week as a CPA. My oldest is diagnosed with autism. Like, all of these things just made life really hard to the point where I thought there was no room for me.
And of course, it wasn’t the right time or season. Logically, that’s what I told myself, but yet I couldn’t. I could not ignore the feeling that kept coming to me. It was very out of body, and I knew it was coming from God, but I couldn’t see how the two fit together. And so from that point, that’s really when I got so crystal clear on what my divine purpose was when I really surrendered to what God was asking of me.
And not having all of the answers from the beginning. I really had to put my trust in him and to build out a process and a life that I had never had the example of how to do that, and I had to become almost a trailblazer in my own life so that I could create what he was asking me to do. And that’s what I now teach.
Those are the amazing things that I now teach my clients. I did end up going back to school. I got certified as a life coach. So now I take those skills in addition to the steps that I’ve created, and that’s what I’m going to share with you on this podcast episode and in the next couple episodes to come.
So when I’m talking about like our calling or our purpose, these are, this is the thing that you are meant to do. Okay? It comes from deep within. It comes from working in partnership with God. It uses. Your unique gifts and talents, and it allows you to come alive in a completely different way.
There’s a very deep sense of fulfillment and joy that comes from this place. Now you’ll find that, that this is called by a lot of names, and I’m going to share that for you because everybody has different language about how they describe this. Feeling that I’m talking about. So if you’ve ever read the book, The Alchemist, if you haven’t read it, I would recommend it.
It’s one of my favorites. But if you’ve ever read the book, the Alchemist, they talk about it, this feeling as a personal legend. Okay? If for those of us that have kids, which is all of us listening to the the Mom on Purpose Podcast if you’re a frozen lover, you know that she calls it the Secret Siren and Frozen too.
Other people call it like their full potential. Other people call it like their life’s purpose. I don’t care what you call it. Okay? It doesn’t matter. What matters is that you understand that this is God given to you, that this is. Part of you that what has been planted on your heart are the, are is the compass for the rest of your life.
It is the blueprint by which you are to live your life. Do not disregard this feeling. This is everything. Okay. And the more you ignore it as a word of caution, the louder and more painful it will become. It will not magically go away. And I tell you this one from experience and two from coaching hundreds of women on this feeling.
There was one point where I coached an 83 year old woman that had lived a life of pain because she had ignored what she felt called to do, and she was sitting in my office with so much pain and regret. Yes, she had a family. Yes, there were some many happy aspects of her life. And there was this pain that existed within her.
Okay? So it’s so important that you understand that this is not going away because this is what you are meant to do. So the more you embrace that, the more you make peace with that, the more you surrender to, to, to the compass for the rest of your life. And you will be amazed that once you move into.
And accept this as your next steps in your life, something will shift. Things will come into your orbit that will make it easier and simpler to achieve. That doesn’t mean it’s always easy. That doesn’t mean there’s not obstacles or that you won’t have a lot of learning experiences. But everything starts working in favor for your good, and you can really trust that.
If you don’t believe it for yourself. Lean on my belief for right now. So to really start, I want to talk about the three common myths that I hear when really finding out what your purpose is. So the first myth is that, The this thing will magically appear once your kids are older. So for the most part no, actually I’d say it’s probably about 50/50 people that come to me, to be coached by me.
About 50% know what that thing is, and 50% have no idea. It’s fine either way. Okay. There’s no right or wrong and there’s no person that’s further ahead in the journey. It is just our own personal journey and we’re all at different points on that journey. But what I have found is that the 50% that don’t know what it is yet, they think that it will magically appear once their kids get older.
Like all of a sudden it will land in their lap. And I remember talking to a woman once and she’s, she has spent years trying to. Quote unquote, find that thing, whatever that thing is, and she started getting panicked because it had been so many years. She thought it would just be there as soon as her kids went into the first grade and she had just, hit the ground running.
Okay. So the first thing is to recognize is that’s a myth. It won’t magically appear once your kids are older. The second belief is that it takes a lot of time and so you have to put it off until you have more time. Okay. And when I see this start to happen is when people put it off and their kids go into first grade.
Those of us that have older kids, you’ve moved into the teenage years. Life actually gets busier. We don’t think that’s the case. We have friends that tell us that case, but we still think in our brain, oh no, I’ll have more time when they get older. But that’s just not the way that it works.
And so when you have this belief that your purpose takes a lot of time and you keep putting it off until you have more time. It just becomes something that’s that, that you’re always putting off and you’re never actually living your purpose. That pain still exists inside of you for not doing that.
Okay, so then the third one is that it will hit you when you’re quote unquote ready. Okay. Now it’s really important to recognize that there is a difference between being prepared and being ready. Ready is just like a mental constrict for our brain because we’re never actually ready.
Okay? Like we, we never have, all of our ducks in a row will never have all of the skills. That’s the point when we’re moving towards our purpose, We’re not going to know the end from the beginning. That’s the part where we’re exercising faith and trust in God, but also we won’t have all of the skills, even if we did know the end from the beginning because we haven’t learned them yet.
Those are the skills that God wants to teach us along the way, along the path. And so when we’re going through this and when we have that, that faulty, that myth, that faulty belief that it will hit us when we’re quote unquote ready. It’s never going to hit you because you will never be ready.
That’s that. It just doesn’t work that way. And so what I find is that when people are trying to get ready, What they’re doing is over consuming instead of taking actions and being willing to fall and learn new skills along the way. Okay. That’s just a protection mechanism that your brain has built in.
Okay, so all of these I really want you to see that these are just myths and these come from like the programming of the culture that we’ve been raised in, that we’ve been told that we have to work hard, which in reality, What that has always meant is you have to work long hours. So that’s where the time belief comes in, that you have to be there all the time for your kids.
So that’s another programming culture that has come. Like in order to be a good mom, you can’t have other focuses. You have to always be present with your kids. That’s just not possible. And there are plenty of moms that are there all the time for their kids that are not actually there mentally.
They might be physically there. They’re not mentally there. And then the last one is really, there’s just, there’s no point where you’re actually ready. Anytime you say you’re trying to get ready, there really is just a fear of failure that exists. And so when you’re working towards what you’re called to do, what your purpose is, what I want you to really focus on and this is what I’m going to continue teaching you in the podcast, is it’s a way for you to start working smarter, and that means that you, things will start coming easier for you. One, because you’re working in partnership with God, and two, because you’re doing the necessary things, not the busy work.
You also actually become a better mom when you’re moving towards your purpose because you are more alive, you’re more fun, you’re happier. So in the time you have with your kids, suddenly you are a different person with them. And then also when you’re working towards your purpose, there are lessons that you will learn that will shape you into who you’re meant to be.
And you cannot learn those lessons until you actually dive in. Until you actually start moving towards it. So when you’re, when you get to this point and you really are ready to surrender, this is where everything changes. And I want you, if you are at that point right now, I want you to just close your eyes for a second, and I want you to have a prayer in your heart where you’re just telling God I’m ready to surrender. I’m ready. I want to work in partnership with you.
That’s when the course of your life will start to change. So now that you’ve made that commitment to yourself, I’m going to teach you a very simple formula.
I’m going to introduce the formula today, and over the next couple episodes, I’m going to dive deeper into the different aspects of this formula. But I wanted to start just introducing it today. So when you’re working in partnership with God, there is a specific formula that I created. It’s called the Discover Your Calling Formula.
And it’s very simple and it will guide every aspect of your life. It is joy plus decision equals your calling. You can even have purpose, whatever word really stands out to you. Okay, so I’m going to repeat that again. So the Discover Your Calling formula is Joy plus decision equals your calling, or your purpose.
It will guide all the aspects of your life when you’re making decisions and when we’re focused on the first aspect of joy. And again, I’m going to dive more into this next time, but I wanted to introduce it to you to today. When you’re focusing on joy, what brings you joy are your God-given talents?
This took me so long to figure out, just please take this from my brain. If you take anything, take this one thing from my brain. I couldn’t figure out what my gifts and talents were. I could see them in all the other people. I thought they had to be tangible things. I had the hardest time figuring out what my gifts and talents were to the point where I just assumed I didn’t have any.
When I really started to understand that what brought me joy was my God-given gifts and talents. It was like the entire world opened up to me. Okay. And I started having passion and love and fulfillment on such a deep level. Okay. So that’s the first aspect of Discover your calling is you get to discover what brings you joy and do more of that.
Because God has given you those things. You can use them to benefit every other person on this earth, including yourself. And then the second part of that, His decision now for the longest time, I thought, all right, I have all these passions and I would start moving forward in these passions, and I would do 20 of them all at once.
And I realized very quickly that’s a way to burnout. But I didn’t know which one, and I would pray about it and I would stew over it. So it was like I was doing 20 of them, or I was doing none of them, and I couldn’t find a middle ground in between. But what I realized was that I didn’t yet have the skills to make a decision and to implement and see that decision all the way through, because if I did do that, I would fail at some point.
I would see mistakes that I would make. I would tell a story about myself, how I wasn’t good enough and I couldn’t actually do these things. So the two options that I was living in was doing all of them and burning out. I’m telling myself what a failure I was by moving forward on these decisions.
Now I have developed in each of those areas joy and decision. Very simple ways that you can find your joy and move toward it, and you can learn how to start making powerful decisions in your life were that you are. You are understanding and learning the skills from yourself as you’re going through this.
When you take both of those things and combine them together, this is how you start living your purpose. This is how you discover your purpose and you live your purpose. So I’m excited to share that with you for the next couple episodes. But for today, that’s what I want you to take away is joy plus decision, equals your calling or your purpose.
And from that point, that’s where you start becoming the woman you are meant to be. The woman that God has created you into, and you can now start to magnify that on a much larger scale, not for outside validation, not for that feeling of success, but for that deep fulfillment that you are doing what you were sent here on earth to do.
So I’m excited in looking for, to sharing the next couple episodes with you.
Have a wonderful day. Thank you for listening.
