I always wondered what it was like to be married and enjoy the holidays during the first 5 months of the year. Holidays like Valentine’s Day.
For most of my married life, Valentine’s Day has landed in the middle of Busy Season. But, this year was going to be different. He had stayed into the way A.M. hours all week to be able to make it home for the party the kids had planned for the family to “celebrate love.” And then a new deadline appeared, as if to taunt us.
We were left staring at an empty chair.
I know feelings of disappointment like this regularly occur for you, too. Mama, it’s ok to feel disappointed.
There’s a common misconception that life coaching is about thinking happy thoughts to magically make yourself feel better, but this is not the case. It’s about accepting that life is full of a range of emotions, positive and negative. When you accept that, you stop resisting and start feeling the negative. When this happens, you can more fully embrace the positive when it comes.
So, when disappointment arises after you’ve partied with the kids alone, then wrangled them all to bed so you can sit alone on Valentine’s Day, know that you are having a negative emotion as part of your human experience, and that’s ok.
