Hey mama! Busy season is in full swing. I want you to know I see you. And, I’m here for you.
If you’re like us, January is usually filled with coughs, nasty noses, and fevers. I used to wonder why I was being punished at the beginning of busy season when we were already struggling to stay afloat.
Here’s what I learned. That thought didn’t serve me one bit. Yes, it was true we always got sick (and still do!) those beginning weeks in January. When I felt punished by the sicknesses (or the universe!), I was feeling victim to my life. I would get upset and resentful. I would focus on all the worst parts of being sick, like the cranky kids, the tissues all over, and the achy body. In the end, things would always get much worse.
Once I stepped back and recognized my thought about the sicknesses we get in January, I realized I could find a lot of really great things about it too. Some of the things I love about being sick are my kids and me stay in our pajamas all day, I spend extra time snuggling my babies while watching movies, and I throw expectations for “healthy” food out the window and let the popsicles flow.
We still get the same sickness crap in January every year, but at least now we plan on it by stocking up on popsicles and finding our favorite movies to enjoy.
